Jorge Lorenzo is confident of making a ‘step forward’ this weekend at Phillip Island in Australia after admitting he had higher expectations last time out at Motegi.

Lorenzo finished the wet race in Japan in sixth place, with team-mate Andrea Dovizioso taking victory on the factory Ducati ahead of Marc Marquez.

“The race at Motegi didn’t go the way we had expected, but now we’re fully focused on Phillip Island,” Lorenzo said.

“This year, in the races where we had high expectations we weren’t able to do a good race, and yet sometimes, where you least expect it, we have managed to make big improvements.

“In Australia we should make a step forward from the winter tests, where we simply didn’t have enough pace. We are coming back here better prepared than eight months ago and so we must continue to give our all if we want to improve.”

Lorenzo is seventh in the championship in his maiden year on the Desmosedici GP17, nine points behind satellite Yamaha rider Johann Zarco.

JL shouldn't be EXPECTING anything.

Again, talk is cheap

Pedrosa has finished a few races ahead of Dovi while Lorenzo has not finished ahead of Marquez not even in a single race. It's impossible for Ducati to fight for the championship with such a handicap. Dovi deserved a better teammate and Ducati a better no. 2. If Dovi loses or wins the championship will be the first rider to had zero help from a teammate.

Very true.

If that your logic, sign VR. :P Try last year Ducati rider, fast AI. Is that really help Ducati for the championship?

wow, the intelligence in that post!

More of a rossi and dovi fan but lorenzo will be winning or at the pace of dovi by jerez 2018. 11 months on the bike conpared to 5 for dovi. Will take a riding style change, which all motogp riders can do.

@ZDOUBLEZ. So does that mean in 2007 Casey Stoner who won 10 GP's needed help from Loris, hmm don't think so.

Marc really 'stood up' Dovi and there would have been a crash if he hadn't given way.

What was Dovi's reaction ?........he gave Marc a hug in Parc Ferme.

Zarco 'stood up' Jorge when he dived up the inside of him, Jorge stood his ground and there was almost a crash.

What was Lozzer's response ? ........he is going to take it to the Safety Commission.

Just an observation, no side to it on my part.
