Aleix Espargaro has admitted defeat in his bid to race this weekend at Sepang in Malaysia after the Spaniard injured his hand at Phillip Island.

Espargaro came off during the race and suffered a fracture to the fourth metacarpus of the left hand. The Gresini Aprilia rider had intended to avoid surgery this weekend to boost his prospects of competing in Malaysia, but he will now undergo an operation on Thursday in Barcelona.

Espargaro is now aiming to make his return at the final round of the season at Valencia in Spain in November.

“The idea after the injury was to avoid surgery and to try to race here in Malaysia. Unfortunately, the situation is forcing me to go back home for surgery so that I will be able to fully recover for Valencia,” he said.

“In agreement with Dr. Mir, we agreed to have the surgery done on Thursday in Barcelona. It was an unfortunate crash, but I am already focused on the last race of the season where I want to demonstrate the level that the Aprilia RS-GP and I have reached.”

Will they give Sam the better bike to see what he can do on a decent bike instead of the crap he's got at the moment?

Yes, the ONLY reason Sam Lowes runs in the back of the pack while Espargaro fights for top 10 finishes is because of some vast conspiracy by Aprilia against a rider they pay a salary too. You Brits are hilarious.

They should bring in Eugene Laverty from their WSBK team, IMO.

Absolutely. Bring in another mediocre Brit rider to replace a superb Spanish rider. Makes perfect sense. Gotta fill up that grid with back markers you know.

If you are going to troll everyone that has more talent than you or i will ever have it might be an idea to get your facts right..

Laverty is Irish and therefore not a "Brit".

Sam Lowes is a World Champion btw and Aprilia have acknowledged that that ESA and Lowes are not on the same bike.

To call Moto2 riders "kids" shows your complete ignorance of how difficult racing is.

Yeah. Because Eugene has been on fire in wsbk this year...

He's top Aprilia rider and 20 points ahead of the next, for the record.

It should be fairly clear that WSBK is not an accurate gauge of skill unless you're on the Aruba Ducati or Factory Kawasaki.

No worries Sam will bring up the rear quite nicely in Espagaros absence. Back to Moto2 with the kids Sam.

Well let's wait and see. If they do give Lowe's the bike and he's much quicker we will know why. If not, then Moto2 is perhaps where he belongs. Either way , I truly can't understand why the are replacing him with Redding.

It's good then that Fausto Gresini and Romano Albesiano know why they want Scott.. It goes as far as both admitting they didn't even wanted him to switch teams, was their number 1 target since day one.. As said many times before, some things, deals may seem strange to us fans, but they see a lot more than us anyway, so I they probably know too well what they doing..
