POLL: Was Simoncelli penalty fair?

Marco Simoncelli saw his hopes of a debut MotoGP rostrum end in disappointment and controversy at Le Mans on Sunday.

Simoncelli received a ride-through penalty after clashing with fellow Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, as the pair battled for second position on lap 18 of 28.

Pedrosa looked to have re-passed Simoncelli as he took the inside line into the Esses at the end of the back straight, but the Italian wasn't giving up and tried to swoop around the outside of the Spaniard.

Pedrosa, on the tighter line, couldn't turn as sharply and - after sitting his bike up - hit the side of Simoncelli's Gresini Honda as it moved across in front of him.

Pedrosa broke his right collarbone when he fell. Simoncelli continued, only to be served with a ride-through penalty by Race Direction - dropping him from second to fifth at the finish.

But was Simoncelli, frequently criticised by some fellow riders for aggressive riding, treated fairly by Race Direction?
