Should Marc Marquez be penalised?

There is much speculation and debate over Race Direction's yet-to-be-announced verdict on the Marc Marquez-Dani Pedrosa incident in Sunday's Aragon MotoGP.

Approaching Turn 12 a little too quickly, Marquez brushed the rear of team-mate Pedrosa's Repsol Honda as he took evasive action, breaking a traction control sensor that then caused Pedrosa to highside on the exit of the turn.

Rookie Marquez went on to win the race and extend his title lead to 39 points over Jorge Lorenzo, with the luckless Pedrosa now 59 points behind with just four rounds to go.

"Race Direction wishes to advise that the incident... is under investigation," said a statement. "This is the result of further technical information provided to Race Direction after the end of the race, which must be assessed. The announcement of a Race Direction decision on this matter will be made as soon as possible."

Marquez and Pedrosa have since been summoned by Race Direction for a hearing at Sepang, venue for the forthcoming Malaysian round.

Race Direction has a long list of potential penalties available should it feel action against Marquez is required - Warnings, Penalty Points, Fines, Withdrawal of Championship points etc - but would appear most likely to work within the new-for-2013 Penalty Points system.

Race Direction can sanction a rider with between 1 and 10 Penalty Points 'for endangering other riders or committing other serious offences'.

Points accumulate during the season, with punishments given if 4 points (back of grid start), 7 points (pit lane start) and 10 points (disqualification, from next event) are reached.

Marquez has already received two Penalty Points for ignoring yellow flags in the warm-up at Silverstone. So one more point would effectively serve as a final warning, while two or more would result in at least a back of the grid race start.

With that in mind, we'd like you to vote on whether Marquez should be penalised for the Aragon incident and, if so, by how many Penalty Points, given the punishments mentioned...
