Porto dominates 250cc Dutch TT
26 June 2004
Sebastian Porto took his second victory of the 2004 campaign - and the third of his career - in today's 250cc Dutch TT, which he started from pole position.
Dani Pedrosa got a nightmare start from second on the grid and was two places from the back when he finally got going, launching a remarkable recovery which saw him scythe through the field and chase Porto for victory over the final laps.
Second place for the Spaniard means he now trails Randy De Puniet by just one point in the championship after the Frenchman finished fourth, with Toni Elias completing the podium for the second race in succession.
Sebastian Porto – 1st:
"Today was a very nice day - my best day! This is one of my favourite circuits so victory is fantastic for me, my team and sponsors. I tried to get away early but it wasn't possible so I waited in the middle of the race then pushed again at the end. The bike was very good and I'm very happy. Now we need to continue like this."
Dani Pedrosa – 2nd:
"I had a very bad start because of some kind of engine problem – it nearly stopped. I had the same problem this morning in the warm-up, but my mechanics thought they could fix it by changing the settings. After the bad start I had to go very fast to catch the leaders. Porto pushed very hard, I couldn't follow him, but I'm really happy."
Toni Elias – 3rd:
"I was closer to the leaders but not close enough. This weekend we've gone well in the wet and the dry which is very important for us. Now I feel better with my bike, there are still little problems, but if we can continue like this I hope to keep getting podiums and fight for a win."
