Dovizioso takes lonely 125 Donington win

25 July 2004

Andrea Dovizioso took a clear and dominant victory in today's 125cc British Grand Prix, to consolidate his world championship lead.

Dovizioso was the only rider from the top five championship contenders to pick up any points at all today, with Casey Stoner missing through injury and Hector Barberá, Roberto Locatelli and Pablo Nieto all crashing out.

The Italian youngster was joined on the podium by Alvaro Bautista, who sealed his first top three finish in second place, and Jorge Lorenzo, and now leads the series by 32 points from Locatelli going into the four-week break.

Dovizioso - 1st: “It was a little bit strange to be alone at the front of the race and it was a difficult to set the right pace because of that. But in the end everything worked perfectly, especially with Barbera and Locatelli crashing out.”

Bautista - 2nd: “I'm so happy to take my first podium! The hard work has paid off today and I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career, including my family and friends. This is dedicated to them.”

Lorenzo - 3rd: “As always I had a bad start and I knew then that I couldn't catch Andrea and Bautista, but we have to be happy with this result.”
