125: Talmacsi wins at the line
25 March 2007
Having lost the season-opening Qatar race by 0.073secs, Gabor Talmacsi took revenge by winning round two in Spain by just 0.014secs!
After retiring with mechanical problems in Qatar, Jerez pole sitter Mattia Pasini suffered another blow when his Aprilia broke down on the way to the grid - leaving the furious Italian to push his bike back to the paddock... then start from last place.
That left Talmacsi to convert second on the grid into an early lead, while a fired-up Pasini charged all the way to ninth in the opening laps - then collided with eighth-placed Bradley Smith sending them both into the gravel.
While Pasini was releasing his rage in the pits, fellow Aprilia rider Talmacsi continued to lead largely unchallenged - until Derbi's Lukas Pesek caught the Hungarian in the closing stages. The pair then played a game of cat-and-mouse as they reeled off the remaining laps, before fighting for real as the last lap began.
Talmacsi successfully defended the lead until Pesek barged past through the stadium section - and the Czech rider looked to have victory in the bag as he led out of the last corner, but Talmacsi got a cleaner exit and claimed his first non-KTM victory by just 0.014secs at the line.
Home star Hector Faubel, winner in Qatar, completed the podium in third.Spanish Grand Prix:
1. Talmacsi (Aprilia)
