Pedrosa pulls clear for home Spanish glory

Best of the non-Spaniards was Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi, who tussled with Marquez in the early laps before spending much of the race in a lonely fourth.

'Battered and bruised' after two heavy falls on Saturday, Cal Crutchlow initially threatened Rossi before being embroiled in a battle for fifth with home Gresini Honda rider Alvaro Bautista.

Nicky Hayden and factory Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso took seventh and eighth, with Aleix Espargaro again the top CRT rider in ninth for Aspar. Tech 3 rookie Bradley Smith completed the top ten.

Ducati test rider and former Gresini CRT racer Michele Pirro made his Desmosedici race debut as a wild-card, finishing in eleventh.

Five riders crashed out.

Karel Abraham, who had attempted to return from a broken right collarbone at Austin, withdrew on Friday. Pramac Ducati's Ben Spies missed the event in order to undergo further rehabilitation on his healing shoulder.

Marquez now leads the world championship by three points from Pedrosa, with Lorenzo one point further behind. Each of the trio has won one race so far this year,

A test session will be held at Jerez on Monday.

Marquez is the real deal, the early pass on Rossi and then later 'bump' on Lorenzo shows he's aiming for the title. Good race for Dani, right back into the title hunt.
