The Moto3 championship was blown wide open at the Aragon Grand Prix as Maverick Vinales and Alex Rins were locked in battle for victory once again - while title leader Salom was again left to limit the damage with a late push for fourth.

Rins stayed true to his late run of form, putting himself back into title contention in the second half of the season as he stole the lead away from Vinales on the first turn of the final lap.

The Estrella Galicia KTM rider then put the power down and blasted out of turn fifteen to pull away and cross the line in first place for his fifth win of the season and second victory in a row.

Superior cornering kept Vinales in the frame for the win while looking determined on the Team Calvo KTM, he also appeared more comfortable than in previous rounds, but was left frustrated when Rins powered away on the final lap, saying in parc ferme that he had problems with third gear onto the back straight, leaving him to settle for second.

Rins' team-mate Alex Marquez completed the leading three, who all made the podium, sitting behind his warring fellow countrymen while in contention to pounce but was later dropped as Vinales and Rins pushed each other to the limit for the win.

It gives Marquez third consecutive third place finish leading to it once again being an all Spanish, KTM dominated podium.

The race result cuts Luis Salom's lead in the championship to nine points back to Rins who now sits in second and leaves a twelve point gap to Vinales who falls to third in the standings.

Philipp Oettl ran with the leaders in the early laps from his fourth place start but was dropped by half distance and then reeled in by Mahindra's Miguel Oliveira and championship leader Salom.

The German, held firm on his Kalex KTM powered Tec Interwetten bike and did not falter when the experienced duo approached, with Salom only looking to have secured fourth as he approached the chequered flag.

Oliveira crossed the line in fifth, with a late mistake leaving Oettl in sixth, his new best result after a ninth in Misano and ahead of his fellow countryman, Aspar's Jonas Folger, who rode on painkillers to seventh after his surgery on his broken ankle last week.

Romano Fenati was the top Honda rider for San Carlo Team Italia in eighth beating Red Bull's Arthur Sissis into ninth.
