Pedrosa extends advantage with Donington victory.

Dani Pedrosa extended his lead at the top of the 250cc world championship with another stunning display today at Donington Park, which simply destroyed the rest of the quarter-litre field.

The Spanish rookie took the lead on the first lap and made a typical break from the lead group, lapping alone as he had done at the Sachsenring seven days previously and eventually winning by over six seconds from Sebastian Porto.

Randy De Puniet returned to the podium in third place and remains second in the championship, 18 points ahead of Porto but trailing Pedrosa by 34 with just seven rounds remaining.

Pedrosa - 1st: “I'm so happy. We did a great job in practice and it's fantastic. I can't believe it. The bike was fast and the rhythm was perfect. Thanks to Movistar and Honda and I hope that the next races will bring the same result.”

Porto - 2nd: “It was very difficult again. This circuit, like the last, is very difficult for us – there are slow corners; Dani is very light and he and his bike go faster in the slow corners. Second is good for the championship. We need to work more, but I'm happy and would like to say thank you to the sponsors and team.”

De Puniet - 3rd: “Third is not so bad after several races without a podium. It was difficult to get on the podium after a bad start and I had to overtake many riders. It was impossible to do better.”
