Kallio wins red-flagged German 125 GP.

Red Bull KTM rider Mika Kallio won a crash-shortened 125cc German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring today.

Kallio was leading the race, scheduled for 27 laps, when it was red-flagged with six laps remaining with Manuel Poggiali's bike blocking the circuit after the former world champion suffered a huge highside, caused by running wide on the same downhill right hander that Ducati's Carlos Checa had highsided at on Saturday.

Kallio's second win of the season came after he had qualified on pole position. A poor start then saw the Finn drop back to eighth, before he fought his way forward to take the lead on lap eight, after passing Italians Marco Simoncelli and Mattia Pasini.

Simoncelli eventually finished in third place with Honda's Thomas Luthi second, giving the Swiss rider the new championship lead following another fall for previous title leader Pasini.

"It was my plan to go to the front and try and lead as many laps as I could and then wait for the final laps," said Kallio. "I made a poor start but pushed to the lead and I knew there was a pack of riders behind, but I never looked back. Perhaps I was a little lucky with the red flag but I still my KTM was fast enough win. But I also had some bad luck early this season so I'm happy with this result."
