125: Corsi clinches Mugello thriller.

Home hero Simone Corsi emerged on top of a classic 125cc Mugello slipstream-fest in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix - the Jack & Jones Aprilia rider leading a top three covered by just 0.036secs!

No less than twelve riders were fighting frantically within the lead group by the halfway stage of the 20 laps, and the victory pack still stood at an impressive seven riders as the last lap began - with Bradley Smith leading Mike di Meglio, Pol Espargaro, Gabor Talmacsi, Corsi, Sergio Gadea and Nicolas Terol.

But Smith, riding with a fractured foot and having been as low as tenth in the early laps, was swamped into turn one - dropping the Polaris World Aprilia rider back to fifth as Corsi grabbed the advantage from Talmacsi and Espargaro.

Espargaro then snatched second from the reigning world champion in the closing stages of the lap, handing Corsi vital breathing room in the process, although the race leader was still in real danger of losing out on the run to the line.

But the Italian just held on to claim his third victory of the season by 0.019secs from Talmacsi, who had slipstreamed past Espargaro on the dash to the line and needed just a few metres more to deprive Corsi of victory.

Corsi is now tied for the world championship lead with Mike di Meglio, who finished fourth on Sunday.

Debut pole sitter Raffaele de Rosa slipped back to 13th in the race.
