MOTOGP » Yuki Takahashi
Yuki Takahashi returns to GP racing’s intermediate category, the new Moto2 class, in 2010 after a problematic entry into MotoGP in 2009.
A former All-Japan 250 Champion and GP winner, Takahashi’s Scot Honda MotoGP ride lasted less than half a season, due to financial problems, and this year he is out to show he is just as strong as he was in his 250 days.
Takahashi comes from a motorcycle-loving family. At seven his father got him started in local pocketbike races. In 1996 he was voted Japan’s best pocketbike racer, then moved up to minibikes with an NSR50. He has ridden Honda machinery ever since.
In 1999 he started racing 125s and within two years was battling for the national title. Signed by HRC to contest the 250 series in 2002, he scored his first GP podium that year, riding as a wild card at Motegi. In 2005 he began his full-time GP career, winning two GPs the following summer. Subsequent seasons were spoiled by injury.
When he’s away from racing Takahashi spends his time cycling, fishing and clubbing.
