As others have implied, I reckon this decision is most likely Honda leaning on Gresini to use Honda's own suspension company, Showa.
Any money bets on that Gresini are testing and collecting data which will be used on Honda's 'customer' spec MotoGP bikes (you know, the ones they are bringing out to kill off the CRT's and make sure the spec ECU is binned, thereby enabling them to keep all their tech toys, and for fans to get more processional 'racing').
Gresini aren't allowed to beat HRC/Repsol. Gresini is just a way for Honda to get extended testing dine for their own ends IMO. I feel sorry for AB - essentially he's just being used as a test rider - its just he does his testing on race weekends.
