My sympathy, empathy, amazement or anything else I have for Rossi does not change the fact that the bike still needs to be ridden in anger to get the most feed back. Is it possible Stoner was so fast because when he reacheds a certain level of speed with the bike the problems went away (meaning take the bike past the perceived limit to what it really is)? Of course. If Rossi got up to speed and said 'fvck this sh1t', I wouldn't blame him. The point of this entire discussion is that I firmly believe that if Ducati had actually shown this much interest in helping Stoner out they would have more than one world championship.
