I don't know about shameful?
Should Yamaha and Honda have stuck by Michelin? maybe..It's dog eat dog and if they thought tyres were significant in undermining their engineering efforts, in a free market what are they supposed to do? There were no rules saying who had to supply who?
If you are Ducati it's easy to understand why they wanted to keep BS and deny the other two..they put the development in and thought that they had the right to an unchallenged period of success, after all they'd struggled against Michelins "overnight specials"..but's that's not how it works.
For me tyres shouldn't dictate.
