I would guess that Ducati is planning a fundamental architecture change for the GP12 - something that is a big departure from the current bike in terms of tuneability, rigidity, balance, etc. They're gonna need to know whether they're on the right path as soon as possible, so they can either cut bait or go full speed ahead with the proposed changes.
