Rossi rides as fast as is needed to safely secure the championship never anything more. His last corner passes, like the one on Sete, were never a 'fight to the finish', just the show. Rossi always said as much in his post race interviews. 'I did ...... and then I push ....." The only time I can recall where he went outside his safety zone was at Phillip Island in 2009. Stoner was no threat so why was Rossi riding his nuts off to try to beat Stoner? Because Stoner had beaten Rossi at the holiest of holies, Mugello, Rossi's track, Stoner knew it, Rossi knew it, and it was payback time. Did Rossi tell the press, no way, he plays the press like a fiddle. They were still dribbling about Laguna 2008 which was a nothing event. Those days are gone. If Rossi wants to join the boys at the front, it is a whole new ballgame.
