The real problem is going to be the debate amongst the fans because we really do not know if Stoner has great development skills as they were never tested. Stoner never got the kinds of changes that Rossi is getting now, so no one really knows if he would have made it work and won the title with a fully new spec Ducati developed under his sole/lead input. However on the other end, Rossi will be criticized for it because he is getting the opportunity to do it and unfortunately this is like starting from scratch and is not a 1 year deal although he did a huge turnaround with the Yamaha.
The fact is they cannot be compared because Stoner has not attempted a revision such as this while Rossi has... In the end Stoner is just plain fast and might not be up the challenge of that magnitude. He will ride what he is given, he will set it up to be as fast as it can go and that is his niche...nothing wrong with that!
