Percentage, I don't think anyone is particularly denegrating manufacturers, but this is also business, if Honda for example has cart blanche as far as how much to spend then it becomes cheque book racing. If the bikes are similar on many levels then it becomes about the quality of the riders but also the racing will be closer because there is not a performance gulf between bikes. Currently you could get away with a grid of possibly 6 bikes, the rest are not in it. I watched an old 500cc Donnington race and it showed Lawson on a Cagiva at least mixing it up, that would not occur these days. Also I note how Stoner said he would walk away if there were no prototypes which I could easily construe as I have finally arrived at a dominant position, if the run with a level playing field I may have to actually bash fairings, something an aging rider and his spainish nemesis have few problems with.
