I know little of Paul Bird or PBM other than the team fielding Kawasaki SBKs. For some reason, I got the impression that Paul Bird himself was willing to let Tom Sykes go so that Vermuelin and Lascorz would have ride. Kawasaki is who kept Sykes on and for the first time, in a very long time there's green bike at the pointy end in WSBK. That says it all for me.
As for the rest of it, if it's true about the rules, then there isn't any other way for Byrne to get to ride the bike besides as a replacement rider. He could test but not with MotoGP tires. There is the issue since the bike was developed with Pirelli tires, it's not gonna chatter unless it's on MotoGP spec rubber. The only scenario where Byrne gets to ride on a full MotoGP spec CRT entry is as a replacement. Too bad for Ellison...it's not like it's his fault the bike keeps breaking.
