Damon, Stoner won his WC for Ducati on the trellis framed bike. He performed well in the first half of 2008 on the same chassis configuration.
His results started to slide, year by year, when the CF chassis was introduced. I think this was the same year his health issues surfaced. It seems that F1 technology doesn't work so well on two wheels.
Rossi struggled like mad with the CF chassis and the front end used to wash out unexpectedly. Dumping the CF chassis seems to have improved things but that is just one part of the puzzle...
