This whole thought that Audi buying Ducati is going to save their MotoGP team and return it to front running status is crazy. Audi bought Ducati because it was a business decision, not to come to the rescue of thier Motogp effort. This comment of "Ducati remains Ducati" means that although they might pump some funds into their technology R&D effort, they are not a motorcycle racing company so they have no idea what to tell Ducati to do to make this effort successfull.
Ducati already had some technology ties to Ferrari and we see that their input did not save the day. Their push to retain Rossi is because he is an iconic Italian motorcycle racer and a great brand image. If Rossi, Cal, Nicky or whoever ends up here they are going to find, I'm afraid, that this will not be the magical saving grace. For the sake of competitive motorcycle racing, I would love to think this will save the day but I am not going to hold my breath.
