As a Pom, I still have to agree with my Australian friend myke. Stubbornly building only one flavour of bike is boring and arrogant. I'd buy a straight four cylinder Ducati, maybe even a V four, but I'll never own one of their twins. It took Triumph a whole world of pain for over thirty years to finally work that one out. Only now they're really flying high again, I sincerely hope their (admittedly great) triples won't be their "one trick" from here on.
At the end of the day, you can and should have your "DNA", but you should never allow it to stifle ingenuity, creativity, diversity and at the end of the day... what the situation needs.
