The 2011 Yamaha was anything but the "best stuff", let's be honest. And he rode it like what he is: a World Champion. I doubt Pedrosa or even Stoner would have been capable of keeping the title fight alive till the end with such disadvantage. Winning 2 or 3 races? Maybe.
The superb Lorenzo we are witnessing this season is a direct product of having to push the 2011 bike beyond its limit race after race, practice after practice.
What title has Stoner won that he didn't have the absolute best bike on the grid? As soon as the Ducati started losing its advantage, Stoner started dropping in the standings. He is an amazing rider, but not a rainmaker. Top 4 of the World, no doubt. Top 3? Maybe. Top 2? I don't think so.
