Hiroshi Aoyama was a 250cc champion, not a MotoGP champion. Max Biaggi won the 250cc championship four times but never came close to winning in the premier class, yet he is likely to win the WSBK championship for a second time this year...
Aoyama is an exception, granted.
Marco Melandri is a 250cc champion and a 5 time MotoGP race winner, on a 990, but he didn't do squat on an 800, yet he is winning in WSBK.
And please, the difference in weight between a MotoGP and Super bike is negligable.
