It might work in Cal's favour if he doesn't get himself a factory ride with Ducati. Just think about it, Rossi will go to Yamaha so there's no ride there for Dovi which leaves him with Ducati if he wants a factory ride. If Dovi moves to Ducati then that frees up a ride with Tech-3 to keep Cal and give him a chance to further improve.
With that said, if push came to shove I think Dovi would be happy to stay with Tech-3 and that could leave Cal out in the cold if Ducati really don't want anything to do with him.
