My opinion? It was the belief of his fans! He failed to live up to every expectation of his fans when it was announced he would go to Ducati, the facts speak for themselves - Rossi's Ducati mission is a failure.
Memories are clearly short, aren't they?
Stoner was still getting podiums and wins on a Ducati. The only reason Ducati won in 2007 (besides Casey's awesome talent) was because they developed their bike for pure raw speed (but they lost out in rideability).
No one but Stoner would've won the championship on a Ducati in 2007. Rossi would've complained more on the GP7 than he did on the M1 and its Michelins in 2007!
