For Vale, being a mid-pack rider on the Ducati was more embarrassing than going back to Yamaha as the #2 with a good helping of crow with a side of egg on his face.
The mentality is that when/if Vale starts winning, the people will forget about his days at Ducati and just write them off as a huge nightmare. The incredible amount of spin put on the history will make Rossi look like the victim and Ducati as the mean old company that would not listen - kind of like what Rossi did to Honda when he left back in 2003.
The real fans of MotoGP will never forget, though.
