I think Casey is sincere when he says he is retiring for good. But I wonder, he will be missing a championship opportunity due to injury, and then sitting on the sidelines for a year. Will he evaluate his position and change his mind in a year's time? I'd like to think he might, and if Rossi is riding very well next year, and I'm sure he will (as does Capirosi, who knows more than any of the trollers likely to respond), the incentive for Casey's return might prove too strong to resist.
For the sake of the sport, let's hope so.
