The reason Crutchlow's bike ran dry is because he was on his own for almost all of the race, and didn't have the advantage of running in anyone's slipstream, which is what conserves fuel.
Dovi also ran out of fuel on the slow down lap, and the only reason his bike didn't run dry during the race too is because his lap times were slower and because he spent about 8 laps behind other riders, when the engine uses less gas.
