@Loz this is the usual crap we hear whenever there's a spare seat going. For a start Yamaha will only replace Spies for one race. They can't give the ride to somebody who's under contract with somebody else, at least without the say so of their contracted employer. What's in it for those employers to let their rider risk injury? Or in this day and age why would those employers let their rider advertise other people's products? And as for "that test rider chap who plods around at the back" do you mean Katsuyuki Nakasuga who rode one race on the M1 last year and put it sixth? Bit better than, for example Rea did in two races on a factory RCV this year. Or to look at it another way in only two starts he's equalled Guintoli's best result in 38 starts. Hardly suggests to me that Guinters is a better bet. Nakasuga is a decent rider, there aren't too many who could finish sixth in their first MotoGP race.
