...and De Puniet beat Hayden, Abraham and Barbera all on prototypes. He was only 6 thousandths of a second behind Rossi as well. Blame Dorna if you like but they didn't cause the world financial melt down or the Japanese tsunami. They are trying to encourage factory (and/or private) teams by allowing cheaper racing. Had they not, we would have had only 12 bikes on the grid this year and probably fewer in 2013 if the satellite teams couldn't afford the huge leasing fees. There are not enough sponsors willing to put the sort of money needed to fund 24 bikes, each costing 4 million+. Perhaps the moto2 or moto3 methods may be better, perhaps not. If it did drop to under 12 entries I suspect the sponsors would start withdrawing making matters even worse. Its all down to money..
