At the start of the 2012 Suzuka 8 Hours, polesitter Katsuyuki Nakasuga on the Monster Energy Yamaha YART R1 quickly grabbed the lead and set a blazing pace. The Japanese Superbike ace had established a gap, but unfortunately crashed heavily 30 minutes into his stint, damaging the bike and forcing him to push back to the pits - the team eventually retired from the race.
Nakasuga was redeemed for that crash in Suzuka.
