Before Rossi was linked with a move to Yamaha, he was asked what his plans were for 2013. He answered by saying that it depends on the next couple of months. It was obvious then, and even more so with hindsight, that he was referring to the effect of future upgrades. They still haven't arrived and, according to Nicky, they won't be there tomorrow. Why wouldn't Rossi look elsewhere for a ride?
So talk of him deserting Ducati, scurrying back to Yamaha, not earning his pay, etc is inaccurate. Ducati stated that they tried hard to keep him, but they couldn't provide him with the bike he wanted.
