It was a bad business decision.
The amount of money wasted paying his salaray was astronomical. The only thing Ducati walked away with was the same thing that every rider, including Stoner, told them before Rossi was hired. The front end lacked feel.
What exactly did Rossi bring to the table that others hadn't already told Ducati?
IMO Ducati believed the hype, that Rossi was a far more talented rider than Stoner, and Rossi would jump on the bike and win. It didn't happen.
How exactly was it a good business decision?
