8th, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 1st, 3rd ... not quite a "legend", but a very respectable MotoGP career. He could definitely add more championships if he wanted to, but alas, he's picking family over racing - no shame there.
What I find a bit amusing: when comparing the two since Stoner joined the GP class (2006), Stoner's average championship placement is 3.29 (ie: 3rd). Rossi's??? Also 3.29.
