Keeping the desmo system could still mean they change the configuration of the engine. instead of the old L-twin a steeper angle between the cylinders will give a more compact engine that is easier to move around in the frame.
As for promising it will be rideable this is what they said years ago.
It doesn't matter how much money they throw at the project, listening to the riders is the first thing they ought to do.
