Rossi's pace will be the proof of the pudding as to the difference in pace between a Ducati and a Yamaha soon enough. In the (unlikely) event VR is no faster than on the Duke, then the sh!t will really hit the fan. But..
If VR is (let's say) 0.5s on average a lap quicker, then thats a pretty good indicator IMO, as Rossi's ability should be pretty constant. 0.5s-ish improvement over his Ducati performances should put him ahead of the Satellite Yams & Honda's or at least racing with them.
Ok, VR needs to be on average maybe 1s a lap faster to be able to compete with the only other 3 bikes that are as good as his, so 0.5s a lap wouldn't help VR much. But it would settle a few arguments about the Ducati's pace.
