The 2012 season with the CRT bikes marked the end as we know it of the premier class in Grand Prix racing.
From the inception of the (then)500cc World Champion class the event had a two tier structure with exotic works machinery and privateer machines that occasionally gave the works machines a run for their money.
The performance gulf between the tiers is now too great and the racing is often quite boring. The CRT machines have diluted the class so much that the true flavour is lost. Dilute it any more and you have destroyed the class by removing the exotica. There is no easy solution to the high costs in hard economic times but Moto1 & 2 does produce great racing.
