OK, MM is exceptional, as demonstrated by his Moto2 performances (ignoring the whole debate about bike tweaking) but this isn't his first time at Sepang on a MotoGP bike, having had a 2 day private test there.
Comparisons to Bradls or Smiths debuts (past and present) are skewed, neither had had any quality time on the 1000cc bike before. Bradl and Smith were/are also on privateer bikes compared to the full factory stuff.
Also, everyone has a different testing strategy so the times will never tell the full story. The last day of Sepang Test 2 will (weather permitting) show who has the speed, whether that converts to race wins is a different story.
