I agree that if Pedroas was on the Ducati and Hyden on the Honda, the stats may look different. We will never know which way it would have gone.
I like Hayden, and he truely deserved his title, but to say he is a better rider than Pedrosa with the info/stats/data we DO know, is frankly very nieve.
Thats said, i have little doubt in saying that if Hayden had a shot on the M1, he would be at least as fast as Rossi on it. Hyaden was faster than Rossi round most tracks. The only problem was he mysteriously and ironically lost a few tenths on race day whereas Rossi gained gained a few tenths. But he still managed to beat Rossi on many occassions in an out and out race, something he was unable to do with Stoner.
I also agree that Stoner did have impressive stats in motogp (better than Rossi during this time infact), and yes he did finish behind Rossi on 3 occassions whilst on factory equipment, buts lets not forget that Rossi finished behind Stoner fin the standings on 3 occ
