@Tetley I humbly disagree with your assessment. After 4 years riding the "Doncati" as you call it, Stoner took exactly three nanoseconds to adjust to riding a "thoroughbred". You are a true believer in Rossi's ultimate talent, yet think he needs so much more time? The truth is, Rossi took three laps in November 2010 to realise how good Stoner was, and he's been psychologically broken ever since.
Rossi's 0.4 seconds faster on the Yamaha than he was in this test on the so-called "Doncati" last year, and 1.8 seconds slower than Stoner was at that same test. On a Yamaha, that has no chatter issues.
He's right to be despondent. He knows that Lorenzo and Pedrosa have more in the tank, and he's finding it hard to catch them. Rossi will find this year difficult, even if he lucks in for a win or two. Perhaps you could explain it as the famous pre-season "mind games"?...
