Most engineers take pride in their work and don't abandon their ideas easily. But there comes a point when you have to admit defeat after beating the horse to death. Early on someone in the Ducati camp said that the bike was the worst when the tire was cold and the best when it was hot. IMHO Prez hung on to that and believed it could be fixed. What most are failing to realize is that the Desmo valve system takes up more room than a standard OHC cam system resulting in a taller head, hence the very long engine, rotating the engine back compromised the air box. They need fresh ideas. Also it could be health, the man is a paraplegic for crying out loud and health can be elusive.
