If you take all the final times from the 8 tests so far (6 in Sepang + 2 in Austin) and calculate the average gap between Lorenzo and Rossi, it's 0.485s. I think realistically that's where Rossi is at the moment, about half a second form Lorenzo. Not too far but definitely a bit off the pace, which I suppose is to be expected after these two years with the Ducati. The question is whether he will be able to close that gap during the season so that he can fight with the front runners. It's still early days so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. The Hondas are looking very strong though.
