I'm not so sure that there's much if anything of a difference in speed between the satellite and factory M1s. Rossi was also much faster than JL later in the race, and I think the reason was that both Cal and JL switched to a lean burn map to avoid running out of fuel. I don't think Rossi did - or at least not until he'd caught the Hondas.
Significantly, Rossi was the only Yamaha rider to run out of fuel on the slow-down lap . So I think perhaps he threw caution to the winds and didn't change maps, causing his to appear to have greater speed and acceleration on a lighter fuel load.
