@ Lad. I have direct personal experience & recorded data which proves the point. At a drag strip, me & a mate raced each other. We posted an identical recorded time of 11.26s. However, his terminal was 10mph (16kmh) FASTER than mine. If the line was 1M nearer, I'd have won. 1M later & I'd have lost. My bike accel faster through the first qtr-mile, while his bike caught up over the 2nd quarter so we crossed the line at exactly the same time but at very different speeds. If that had been ona circuit with a straight less than qtr mile, then (no matter that his bike has 15mph more top-end), chances are he'd not pass me, but I could pass him with my better acceleration. More than qtr mile and he'd blow by me. So power, gearing & acceleration can make a vast difference to the impact of your top speed on the outcome.
