For an accurate assessment and opinion of Cal no-one is more qualified than JLo and VR46. These are the riders who know the specification of Cal's bike, and what it has and what it hasn't. They both rate him highly and often say so. And when VR46 talks of doing endurance racing, Cal is the one he names as his chosen partner. This speaks volumes about the high regard which Yam's factory riders have for Cal. Now let's consider NOT what Cal says, but the underlying message which he is sending out. What is he going to say when someone sticks a mike under his nose? Will he say his bike is the same as the riders who are beating him? Or will he say he could do much better if his machinery was up to par? He desperately wants a factory ride so the purpose of whatever he says is purely to enhance his opportunities. It’s the smart thing to do.
