From the history books and overall opinion there is no doubt that some of the riders behind him were better and will always be the better riders. However you race in the conditions, time and place on the day with the bike and tyres setup as you and your team decide. What happens after the lights go out and before the chequered flag is up to you. If you fall off -it's your problem. If you get over taken - it's your problem. There is no fluke in racing.
