Yamaha rider winning the championship, in the even number years: 1978 1980 1984 1986 1988 1990 1992 2004 2008 2010 2012 (11 times) in the odd number years: 1979 1991 2005 2009 (4 times) Yamaha historicaly tends to become weaker in the even number years. All the old GP fans know about this fact. It is said that the pace of their development become a bit slowed down in those years. It is a well known fact that Edie Lawson moved to Honda from Yamaha in 1989 because of this. If JL wants to prove himself to be one of the great champions, he needs to win in the odd number year overcoming the adversity he is facing now.
